Troubleshoot

We have compiled a list of frequently encountered problems people have gotten after receiving our cartridges. Reading the information here before using your cartridges can save a lot of time and trouble!

First, note that there are many pre-order questions answered in our FAQ that you would also want to look at for answers.

General

After getting your cartridges out of your shipping box, please store them in an upright position. The ink cartridge may not have been in the upright position during the shipment. That does not harm the cartridges, but it may cause the ink to migrate incorrectly to the other end of the cartridge. It is best to not immediately install the cartridge, but let it be in the upright position for several hours before use.

Epson

1) Do not over-shake the cartridges. Do not touch the chips on the Epson cartridges with your fingers.

2) When you install an Epson cartridge, avoid taking out the cartridge once you put it in. It will take extra cleaning cycles to drive out the air bubbles that get into the cartridge while you take out the cartridge.

3) Print a nozzle test page right after you install the cartridge. If there are missing lines or colors, run head cleaning 1-2 times. Your cartridge should be all set and ready to work for you.

4) There is a very slight chance that you still get missing lines on your test page after 2 times of head cleaning. Simply turn off the printer and turn on the printer after at least 2 hours. Run a test page and you cartridge should work. If not, email us or call us for help.

5) If the chip cartridge cannot be recognized by the printer, move the cartridge around within the cartridge holder. 99% of the chance, it will work. If not, email us or call us for help.

6) Avoid replace a cartridge before the printer tells you to do so. Otherwise the printer will only show the ink level of previous cartridge, which is almost out of ink. If you encounter this problem, you will have to reinstall the cartridge.

Canon

1) Don’t over-shake the cartridges.

2) Print a nozzle test page after you install the cartridge. If necessary, run head cleaning 1-2 times to make the cartridge ready to work.

3) If there is one color missing, take out the corresponding cartridge. Slightly tap the ink nozzle on a soft tissue until the color comes out. Put it back into the cartridge holder and it should be working.

Hewlett Packard

Followings are a quick series of steps to take if you do experience problems using the cartridges.

First, please make sure the protective clip is removed before use!

Then, make sure you have the correct cartridge model, as certain models are actually the same shape such as the HP 15 and HP 45. Also, removing the cartridge, turning power off, turning power on, and reinserting the cartridge will work also. Contact us for any further troubles.

If there seems to be color missing that normal nozzle cleaning does not fix, there maybe some air bubbles blocking the nozzle. Get a paper towel and carefully apply a some pressure on the cartridge by squeezing it a bit. If you see the correct colored ink coming out, the air should be cleared out. Reinstall the cartridge and print a test page.

Lexmark

Many of the problems existing with HP cartridge also apply for Lexmark cartridges. This is due to the similar designs involved where the printhead is actually located and changed along with each cartridge.

When print quality problems arise and normal cleaning cycle won’t work, you may want to manually clean the printhead. However, by design the Lexmark printer is more taxing on the ink cartridges. The printhead gets very hot during usage, and you want to let it cool down after taking it out, before trying any manual cleaning. Use a damp paper towel and have the cartridge sit on the towel until you see the ink come onto the towel. Be careful with the ink. Reinstall the cartridge and run the printer's cleaning cycles again.
